White Coat Syndrome
The fear compounded with the Doppler effect of fluorescent panels buzzing above the hospital corridor. The IV lines swung over her head with each of the nurse’s steps as the gurney approached the operating room. She’d said goodbye to her husband just moments before, when he assured her that he’d see her soon. She feared that she wouldn’t remember him when she woke up. The automatic doors swung open into the hectic sterile suite and the doctor put a hand on her shoulder. The needle plunged and she counted backwards as the entirety of her being faded into the ether.
